Falling into Autumn

I love this time of year.  It’s a transition from the hottest time of year where everything is blooming and lush to cooler/crisp air and leaves changing from green to yellow, orange, red or brown. We move away from summer brightness to autumnal richness.  This post is all about how to easily transition from summer to fall through wardrobe, shoes, interiors, and beauty.

Wardrobe

A wardrobe should be practical and comfortable before fashionable in my opinion. I’m not suggesting practical and comfortable as being frumpy or wearing pj’s, but practical for the weather and comfortable – who wants to wear a fashionable knit sweater that’s itchy?  No thank you.    This Fall 2021 season is all about the popular trends of the late 1990’s into the early 2000’s – think textures like sequins and velvet, shorter hemlines like miniskirts with tights, bold colors like bubblegum pink, and tailored layers like sweater vests under suits.  It’s fun to incorporate the current trends, but I won’t sacrifice being warm for a miniskirt – practical and comfortable before fashionable.

Shoes

And then of course, there’s shoes!  You won’t find me with open-toe shoes while it’s raining unless they’re flip flops – practical/comfortable before fashionable.  During this time of year, pumps are my absolute favorite style of shoes to wear. While I love all styles of boots whether Chelsea, knee-high, OTK, etc., pumps are so easy to slip on, they are closed-toe so your toes stay cozy in cooler weather yet can still be worn with or without socks, stockings and tights, and pumps always elevate any outfit.  Pumps are so versatile in style too from heel heights, colors, textures (leather, suede, or patent), and decorations.  Here, I’m wearing pumps by Nicepairs.  They are 5-inch heels in black, patent leather, with a stunning ornament in rhinestones at the heel.  These pumps are so beautiful (like artwork!), transitional, and incredibly easy to wear at the office with a tailored suit or dress, during the weekend with a pair of jeans and cozy knit, and elegant for a fall evening out.

FALLING INTO…

AUTUMN!

Interiors

When I think of fall, I immediately think of rich colors like orange, brown, and sage, and foods like squash, apples, and pumpkins.  One of the simplest ways to create a fall setting at home is lighting fall scented candles.  I light candles everywhere – kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom – everything at home smells of fall with the added sense of warmth.

Beauty

Transitioning from the summer heat and humidity to cooler and dryer fall weather prompts me to adjust my skincare and makeup.  I have my all-year basic skincare that never change like a gentle cleanser, retinol, exfoliator, and sunscreen, but my moisturizers (face and body) change as the weather changes and I always assess what hydration my body needs.  Makeup to me is fun!  Fall 2021 makeup trends seem to be for intense eyeliners and loaded mascara in classic black or bright colors like mint green, and bold lipsticks. I love playing with new colors and looks, so this fall I might try yellow graphic eyeliner while trying my best to maintain glowy, dewy, and moisturized skin.
