Natural Skincare to Stay Vibrant

Skincare is so important. Period. Women and men alike face so many skin issues today from breakouts, hyperpigmentation, large pores, wrinkles, fine lines to just plain dullness. And I’m not even discussing skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, or cancer! I’m a firm believer in taking care of one’s skin and I definitely prioritize mine. Like, I’m obsessed.

As a teen and into my early twenties, I completely struggled with acne. It made me feel embarrassed and even ugly at times (I know… how superficial, right?!). Sometimes, I didn’t even want to leave my home! Clear skin mattered to me… a lot. This is where my journey for the right skincare began. How do I prevent blemishes? (I even gave up drinking coffee thinking that the caffeine was irritating my skin, and I need coffee!) I was willing to make sacrifices and prioritize my skincare. Well, I definitely saw a dermatologist, who is amazing by the way, and she immediately prescribed oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, and a Retin-A gel. The combination worked like a champ! But I also knew staying on oral antibiotics long term wasn’t a healthy solution. And what were retinoids? I discovered not only do retinoids (Retin-A and retinol) clear and prevent blemishes, but they also prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Retinoids are made from vitamin A and promote faster skin cell turnover. I was in my early twenties so why did I care about fine lines and wrinkles? Nope. I was completely on board with retinoids; I told myself that it was never too early to start, and I’m so thankful that I had. Now into my thirties it’s bye-bye blemishes, but…. HELLO hyperpigmentation (ahem… mustache line!), and I wear SPF all of the time!. So frustrating!

So what products do I love and what products have I found to work? I have a holy grail of skincare products that I literally can’t live without, but I’ve recently discovered a natural skin care line that I think everyone should know about no matter one’s skincare needs — Eva Naturals. The brand name says it all, it’s all natural and organic.

Eva Naturals

The four products that I tested were (1) Eva Naturals 20% Vitamin C 20%, (2) Eva Naturals Skin Clearing Serum – Vitamin C Plus, (3) Eva Naturals Retinol Serum 2.5% , and (4) Eva Naturals Eye Gel. Here are three reasons why.

Barely there makeup because of amazing skincare!

1. Skincare is a Life-Long Journey

I’m discovering more and more that good skincare is a life-long journey. While blemishes of my teens and twenties aren’t really an issue for me anymore, staying bright, vibrant and wrinkle-free in my thirties are! But don’t get me wrong… I still have that annoyingly big pimple pop up for whatever reason from time-to-time whether because of hormones, stress or both! But lately I’ve been more concerned with vibrancy, glow and fine lines! Who wants dull skin? I don’t typically wear foundation because for me, make-up is meant to enhance and not cover up. I’m a firm believer that if your skin is healthy and vibrant, then foundation becomes unnecessary. I love being able to touch my skin (with clean hands!) and feel confident in my own skin. I’ve learned to be self-aware of what my skin needs at any given moment for effectiveness and protection over a life-long journey. I constantly ask myself, what does my skin need right now? And I listen.

2. Skincare is Personal and Tailored

Skin types are so diverse and skin needs are so varied. But, there are so many common skin issues that most people can relate to, such as dullness, fine lines and hyperpigmentation (ugh). Currently, I’m managing mine. It requires the right skincare that’s personal and tailored, and putting in the time to see the results. A couple of years ago, I noticed that my upper lip had patches of darker skin that made me self-conscious. I had never had this happen to me. My acne was gone, but now dark and blotchy skin patches were forming above my lip. I immediately saw my dermatologist. I learned that hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color, which can be caused by sun exposure, skin inflammation, melasma (hormones), or lupus (let’s not get into lupus — consult your doctor!). Having extra pigment is usually harmless, but who wants a permanent mustache?! I also learned that hyperpigmentation could be treated with topical vitamin C and retinoids. I was still using Retin-A from my acne days, but I was now introducing vitamin C and more retinol like a mad woman into my skincare routine. While my hyperpigmentation is now being managed, I still need to tailor my skincare to keep in under control in fear dark patches would creep back from sun damage, aging, or simply using the wrong skincare products. So trying out every product Eva Naturals had to offer for brightness and smoothness was high on my list. I tailored what I most needed in my life: vitamin C and retinoids!

I learned retinols are much weaker than prescription retinoids like my Retin-A for acne, so in order to achieve the most effectiveness, any non-prescribed retinols should contain vitamin A as a top ingredient and its packaging should be airtight in an opaque bottle. As you can see, Eva Naturals checked all of these boxes for me! However, if you’re breastfeeding or pregnant, neither retinoids nor retinols should be used; I recommend that you consult your dermatologist or find one!

3. Skincare is Inside and Out

Like I mentioned, I literally gave up coffee for years because I was convinced it would help reduce my acne in my twenties. Whether it did or not, I can’t really prove. I drink coffee every day now in my thirties and I haven’t had any acne issues. Maybe it was just me being mental in my twenties. But, my mom always told me, “You are what you eat.” So eating tons of junk food, fried greasy foods, or processed foods didn’t make sense to me. And doctors are always telling us to drink plenty of water. I literally guzzle sparkling water all the time because it’s my only way to avoid drinking sodas while still trying to drink plenty of water. Hydration is so crucial for good skin inside and out. I’m a strong believer in nourishing your body with the right foods and plenty of water while nourishing your skin with the right products. Eva Naturals is natural and organic, and it makes me feel good about the products that I put onto my skin. I even tested the Eva Naturals Eye Gel as an extra treat to ease eye puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. I’m glowing and feeling super happy about my skin. You too can stay vibrant!
